The Orange Police Explorer Post waPolice Explorerss founded in 1963. Post Number 266 was the first municipal police department Explorer Post established in the United States. Our explorer post welcomes motivated young adults who are interested in participating in law enforcement programs and learning first-hand the fundamentals of the Criminal Justice System.

You Are Eligible if You:

  • Are of good moral character
  • Between 14 and 20 years old Live within the boundaries of the Orange Unified School District (high school or college student)
  • Maintain a 2.1 grade point average (GPA) or higher
  • Can commit to participating in Explorer Post functions and meetings
  • Have never been arrested
  • Successfully pass an oral interview and background investigation

Field Training Includes:

  • California Penal Code
  • Community relations
  • Cultural awareness
  • Formation and drills
  • Information desk procedures
  • Juvenile law
  • Participating in ride-along opportunities with police officers in the field
  • Patrol procedures
  • Physical fitness
  • Police ethics
  • Police radio codes and dispatch communication
  • Traffic control
