Crimes Against Person (CAP) is responsible for investigating homicides, suspicious deaths, assaults, criminal threats, child abuse and neglect, domestic violence, stalking, sexual assaults, missing persons, and other serious crimes occurring in the City of Orange.

The Crimes Against Person team works closely with the County of Orange Social Services Agency in the investigation of child or elder abuse cases.

The Gang Unit investigates gang-related criminal activities. Combining uniformed patrols and plainclothes surveillance, the Gang Unit meets the challenges of suppressing gang activity and uses directed enforcement to hold gang members accountable for their crimes.

The Orange Police Department's Gang Unit partners with the Tri-Agency Resource Gang Enforcement Team (TARGET) which collaborates with other members of the Orange County District Attorney's office and Orange County Probation Department.

The Property Crimes Unit investigates all crimes where the motive is financial gain, or crimes that result in the theft or destruction of property.

Areas investigated include commercial and residential burglaries, theft, arson, vandalism, financial crimes, fraudulent checks, embezzlement, identity theft, and internet fraud.

The Special Investigations Unit (SIU) is responsible for public affairs presentations on the subject of narcotic and drug use, maintaining communications with other local, state, and federal agencies, and providing training to personnel on the issue of drug use and trafficking patterns in the City. 

Detectives create a deterrent to those selling drugs by taking a proactive approach through enforcement strategies, enforcing the laws related to vice offenses and Alcohol Beverage Control (ABC) violations, and by promoting community awareness in drug enforcement.
