We represent the City in court on both criminal and civil matters.

As the City’s chief legal officer, the City Attorney is responsible for the criminal prosecution of violations of City ordinances, including housing and building codes, business license codes, and crimes involving the public peace, morals, and welfare.

In civil cases, the City Attorney defends and sometimes initiates litigation involving personal injury liability, the environment, civil rights, or personnel issues.

When the City's legal needs require specialized guidance or additional resources, the City contracts with outside law firms to represent the City's interest. In the past, for example, the City has utilized outside law firms for help with matters involving eminent domain, police civil rights issues, and various bond offerings.

We represent and advise the City on a variety of legal issues.
